Florida High School 6 Games of the Week
ITG Next sports writer and broadcaster Phil Jones makes his predictions for Week 11.
Miami-Palmetto VS Dr. Phillips
This will be a Class 8A Region 3 play in game, with the winner moving on to play Lake Nona. In what has been a crazy 2020 season in Florida, Miami Palmetto played two regular season games, finishing with a win and a loss.
Phil’s Prediction: Miami Palmetto 26, Dr. Phillips 16
Baldwin VS Trinity Christian
This is a Class 3A regional quarterfinal matchup at Baldwin. A great individual matchup will be Trinity Christian’s RB Treyaun Webb, a Georgia Bulldog commit, versus Baldwin’s Tyson McClendon, a safety who is strong against the run.
Phil’s Prediction: Trinity Christian 33, Baldwin 30
The Villages VS Bolles
This is a Class 4A regional quarterfinal game in Central Florida at the Buffaloes’ home stadium. Bolles is led by ATH Cade Fordham, while The Villages is led by RB Ed Williams.
Phil’s Prediction: Bolles 24, The Villages 7
Tampa Bay Tech VS Bartow
This Class 7A play-in game will feature perhaps the best 5-3 team in the state in Tampa Bay Tech. Two losses have been by 1 point and 3 points. They are loaded with several seniors who’ll be playing on Saturdays next year. That group includes DE Henry Hughes, who is headed to Rutgers.
It’s going to be fun watching Hughes try to contain Bartow QB Lin Johnson. The senior has thrown for 1,199 yards and 18 TDs this season. The winner moves on to play the winner of the Leto versus Durant playoff contest.
Phil’s Prediction: Tampa Bay Tech 40, Bartow 30
Bloomingdale VS Plant City
This is a Class 7A Region 3 play-in contest – and a good one with some talented players. Plant City features WR Mario Williams, an Oklahoma commit. He’ll be matched up with CB Phillip Riley, who is headed to Notre Dame. Something’s gotta give.
Phil’s Prediction: Bloomingdale 27, Plant City 10
Lakewood VS Astronaut
This playoff game is a Class 4A Region 3 quarterfinal game pitting the 7-0 Lakewood Spartans of St. Pete against the 5-1 Astronaut War Eagles, who are led by RB Adreon Torres, who has 17 TDs and 1,437 yards rushing this season. He’ll try to find running room against a Spartans defense that’s given up 25 points in seven games. The winner of this one moves on to the semifinals.
Phil’s Prediction: Lakewood 35, Astronaut 14
