Tampa Catholic High School Football Player TJ Moore Named ITG Next Florida Male Athlete of the Month for July 2023

As anticipation for the Florida high school football season continues to build, we decided to put a spin on our Athlete of the Month segment for July and highlight a small-school athlete who could be on the brink of a special campaign this fall. That athlete is Tampa Catholic senior TJ Moore, who received 38.56% of possible votes over a list of three additional finalists.

With the nominees pulled from Classes 2M, 2S, 1M, 1S, and 1R, and the SSAC, Moore was the winner over Chaminade-Madonna quarterback Cedrick Bailey, Chaminade-Madonna wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, and Sneads running back Jason Patterson.

You don’t have to look hard to see why Moore – who we ranked as the No. 3 wide receiver entering the 2023 Florida high school football season – is expected to have a big senior year. At 6 feet, 3 inches tall and 190 pounds, he is one of the state’s top wide receiver recruits, a four-star prospect who’s rated the No. 129 overall player in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports Composite. Moore holds offers from more than 40 collegiate programs, but he has been committed to Clemson since early June.

The recruiting rankings are no fluke, as Moore has backed up the hype on the field, with last season a prime example of the impact he can have on the gridiron. For a Tampa Catholic team that averaged 40.2 PPG in posting a 9-2 record and Class 2M regional quarterfinal appearance, Moore was among the most productive offensive players. He led Tampa Catholic in receiving, amassing 42 receptions for 1,021 yards and 13 touchdowns, and he also saw time in the running game, as well as on defense.

Tampa Catholic is one of the most talented teams in 2M again, and Moore is poised for another big season that likely will see him rank among the state’s leaders in receiving. In fact, don’t be surprised if Moore surpasses some of those already impressive totals this fall, putting a strong finishing touch on his high school career before heading to the collegiate level.
