Selected over three additional finalists with 53.45% of the possible votes, Somerset Academy South Homestead basketball player Kas Williams has been voted the ITG Next Florida Male Athlete of the Month for January 2024. The other finalists were Chaminade-Madonna football’s Cedrick Bailey, Montverde Academy basketball’s Cooper Flagg, and Miami Palmetto’s Santiago Henriquez.
Williams, a senior forward, has had a major impact for Class 3A’s Somerset Academy South Homestead, which owns a 13-7 overall record at the time of this writing. One of the state’s leading rebounders, he is averaging a double-double for the 2023-24 season, with 14.9 PPG and 18.4 RPG in 14 games, including 7.1 offensive rebounds among the latter average. In addition to those impressive numbers, Williams is shooting a noteworthy 65% from the field, along with averages of 5.1 BPG, 2.9 APG, and 1.6 SPG.
Williams has posted a double-double in all but one of those 14 games, and he has two 20/20 games so far this season, as well as five contests with at least 20 rebounds.
In December, the talented frontcourt player received the honor as a result of his stellar play as the Hurricanes went 7-7. During a nine-game span, Williams averaged a double-double at 15.7 PPG and 20 RPG for, along with 3.3 APG, 1.4 SPG, and 6 BPG. The term “double-double” was a recurring theme throughout the month, as he recorded eight total.
The 20/20 games came on back-to-back days, the first of which was a 20-point, 23-rebound showing on December 28 in a 62-58 loss to Coconut Creek. The following day he produced a 23-point, 23-rebound performance in a 59-54 loss to Hallandale.
Congratulations to Somerset Academy South Homestead’s Kas Williams, the ITG Next Florida January 2024 Male Athlete of the Month.
