Now that the 2023 Florida high school football season has ended, we take a look at the 2024 campaign and present our way-too-early Top-10 power rankings combining all classifications.
10. Cocoa (2S)
The Cocoa Tigers won their second straight championship in Class 2S this season. They went 14-1 while outscoring opponents 533-135, and they will return multiple players from that roster, including Javion Hilson, Jayvan Boggs, and Brady Hart.
9. Miami Columbus (4M)
The back-to-back Class 4M state champions, Miami Columbus is coming off a 13-2 season in which it outscored opponents 457-169. The Explorers will return a talented team headlined by defensive back Bryce Fitzgerald, among others.
8. Homestead (3M)
Homestead, which fell to St. Thomas Aquinas in the Class 3M state title game, will return one of the state top wide receivers in Cortez Mills. The Broncos finished 12-2 in 2023.
7. American Heritage (2M)
The Patriots are coming off a 10-2 season that ended with a loss in the 2M state semifinals. They will return the likes of Deandre Desinor, Byron Louis, Dia Bell, and more from that team.
6. Lakeland (4S)
Two-time defending 4S state champion Lakeland finished the 2023 season at 12-3. The Dreadnaughts will return Keon Young and Zander Smith, among others, in 2024.
5. Chaminade-Madonna (1M)
We begin the Top-5 with back-to-back 1M state champion Chaminade-Madonna. The Lions are coming off a 14-0 season in which they outscored opponents a 687-137. They’ll have to replace arguably as much production as any team on this list, but they also will return a talented team led by defensive back Chris Ewald.
4. Miami Central (2M)
The Miami Central Rockets fell in the Class 2M regional finals to finish the season at 8-4 overall. They will return one of the state’s top defensive players, Amari Wallace, along with others including Ezekiel Marcelin and King Davis.
3. Norland (2M)
The Norland Vikings finished the 2023 season at 14-1 overall, losing only to Berkeley Prep to finish as the Class 2M state runner-up. After outscoring opponents 626-204, they will return a group in 2024 led by quarterback Ennio Yapoor.
2. St. Thomas Aquinas (3M)
St. Thomas Aquinas won its fifth consecutive Florida high school football championship – and second in 3M – and its 15th overall. The Raiders, who outscored opponents 626-157 en route to a 14-1 record, will return a talented group again in 2024, headlined by quarterback Andrew Indorf.
1. IMG Academy (Independent)
Holding the top spot in our way-too-early 2024 Florida high school football rankings is the same team that was ranked No. 1 in our Classes 3-4 Top 25 throughout the 2023 season, IMG Academy. The Ascenders went undefeated, posting a 10-0 record by outscoring opponents 335-99. They’ll return talented players such as Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, Anthony Rogers, Gavin Nix, and Donovan Olugbode as they enter the 2024 campaign riding an 18-game winning streak.
