Boca Raton Christian volleyball player Tekoa Barnes has been voted our ITG Next Florida Female Athlete of the Month for her play during September, receiving 39.35% of the votes.
The Boca Raton Christian Blazers lost only three matches in September and dropped only five sets to an opponent outside of those losses. While there were multiple reasons for the Blazers’ success during that span, one player, Barnes, made a particularly notable impact.
Only a sophomore, Barnes is having as good of a 2022 season as any player in the state. She entered September with 94 kills in 15 sets. That success carried over into the new month for both Barnes and her team as the Blazers won six straight matches and she picked up 55 kills during that span.
Barnes took her game to the next level beginning with a matchup against Boca Raton on September 6. She went on to record at least 20 kills in seven of her remaining nine matches during the month. Barnes also had 30+ kills in three matches from September 6-26, against King’s Academy, St. John Paul II, and First Baptist Academy.
Barnes ended September with 287 total kills during the month. She made a big impact in other areas as well, including 155 digs, 116 receptions, 29 serving aces, 9 blocks, and 4 assists.
Barnes only continues to impress on the court, holding season totals of 494 kills, 290 digs, 174 receptions, 42 aces, 18 blocks, and 5 assists for the Blazers entering the week of October 17. Across 75 sets played, the sophomore also ranks among state leaders in kills and holds a combined 50.2% kill percentage and an average of 6.6 kills per set. She certainly shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon as the Blazers enter the playoffs.
Congratulations to Boca Raton Christian volleyball standout Tekoa Barnes, our ITG Next Florida Female Athlete of the Month.
