We tell you everything you need to know about the 2024 Fletcher High School football team in this preview, including roster changes and what fans can expect from the Senators this season.
2023 Stats
- Overall Record: 7-4
- Points Scored: 265
- Points Allowed: 217
Key Losses
The list of key players not returning to Fletcher in 2024 is both lengthy and impressive, starting with quarterback Marcelis Tate. He was a three-year, dual-threat starter for the Senators, throwing for 4,068 yards with 38 touchdowns and rushing for 1,241 yards and 18 touchdowns. Tate is now at the University of South Florida.
Head coach Ciatrick Fason said these are the other players who will be missed and where they’re headed to play college ball: defensive backs Kai Reyes (Mercer), Zack Taylor (Edward Waters College), and Davarius Lee (Livingstone); wide receiver Anthony Vaglienti (West Florida); wide receiver and defensive back Troy Hillman (Benedict College); offensive lineman Brayden Wallace (Davenport); athlete Coron Davis (Shorter); tight end Kellen Brady (Davenport); and linebacker Eysaw Parrish (Livingstone).
Who’s Back
Fletcher welcomes back three key linemen this year: senior offensive lineman TK Muex, who is committed to the University of Miami; senior defensive and offensive lineman Travis Lan, who enters his final season at Fletcher with 116 career tackles, including 8 ½ sacks; and senior defensive end Andre Jackson.
Two other members from last year’s defense returning are senior linebacker Owen Manuel and safety Winston Harris.
Fason said the team is glad to have junior wide receiver Diondre “Stix” Smith returning on offense this year.
“He has over 20 offers,” the Fletcher head coach said.
Last season Smith had 422 yards receiving with three touchdowns. He also had a rushing touchdown in 2023.
What to Expect
Fletcher has found their mojo with Fason as their head coach. He has led the Senators to back-to-back winning seasons, and the key to making that a third straight winning season may rely on finding replacements for the long list of key contributors from last year who have graduated.
Fason said he’ll have to replace quite a few players from last year’s seven-win team, but he was quick to point out that he’ll have some good ones returning this year too.
“I had 19 players sign college scholarships, but I wasn’t going to lose them all,” he said.
Prediction
The Senators lost a lot of talent: 7-5 overall record.
