Entering Week 5 of the 2023 college football season, several top prospects from the Florida high school Class of 2023 are making noteworthy impacts for their respective teams as true freshmen. Here’s a look at some of those names and what their seasons have looked like up to this point. (Stats as of Wednesday, September 20.)
OT Francis Mauigoa (Miami)
One of the state’s top players a year ago at IMG Academy, Mauigoa has started every game for the Miami Hurricanes at right tackle so far. He’s picked up right where he left off as a Florida prep star, making a name for himself as one of the ACC’s top 2023 freshmen.
S Jordan Castell (Florida)
Arguably the state’s most impressive defensive player early in the season is Castell, who was a four-star prospect at West Orange a year ago. Now at Florida, the safety has 20 tackles and a PD in three games.
LB Jordan Hall (Michigan State)
The former IMG Academy linebacker is one of the top 2023 freshmen from Florida currently in the Big 10. In three games at Michigan State, Hall has compiled 9 tackles and 2.5 TFL.
WR Eugene Wilson III (Florida)
The former Gaither two-way star is making a name for himself at Florida as a wide receiver this fall. In his first three games, Wilson has 12 receptions for 104 yards, and he’s also rushed for 27 yards on 2 carries.
WR Creed Whittemore (Mississippi State)
Formerly a quarterback at Buchholz, Whittemore is now making an impact at Mississippi State as a wide receiver. In three games, Whittemore has 4 receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown, along with 57 yards and another score on 2 rushing attempts.
RB Treyaun Webb (Florida)
The former Trinity Christian-Jacksonville product has rushed for 74 yards and 2 touchdowns on 17 attempts for the Gators. Webb has also caught a pass for 12 yards.
RB Mark Fletcher (Miami)
One of Florida’s top running backs in the 2023 class at American Heritage, Fletcher has impressed as a freshman at Miami, rushing for 82 yards and a touchdown on 13 attempts.
DL Cameron Lenhardt (Nebraska)
The IMG Academy product is making an impact along Nebraska’s defensive front as one of the leading 2023 freshmen from Florida – in three games, he has 6 tackles, 2 TFL, and 2 sacks.
DL John Walker (UCF)
A four-star prospect from Osceola, Walker is making an impact along UCF’s defensive front in the Knights’ first year in the Big 12. In three games, he has 8 tackles and 2 TFL.
WR Carnell Tate (Ohio State)
The former IMG Academy wide receiver has already made an impact for one of the nation’s top teams, despite the Buckeyes having a deep room at the position. Tate has so far caught 4 passes for 75 yards and a touchdown.
RB CJ Baxter (Texas)
The Edgewater product has seen plenty of playing time for the Longhorns, who are one of the top teams in college football up to this point. Baxter has rushed for 69 yards on 16 attempts, while also catching 4 passes for 21 yards.
