2021 Stats

  • Overall Record: 10-2
  • Points Scored: 434
  • Points Allowed: 252

Key Losses

The biggest loss for Coach Cameron Duke and his Edgewater Eagles is probably on the defensive line, where edge rusher Winston Griffin led the Eagles in sacks a year ago. Chrishaun Anderson is a key loss in the Eagles’ secondary, and Thomas Anderson, Donovan Smith, Quadrin Jones, and Morris Williams are other talented defenders who have moved on.

On offense, a big void is left by Jeremiah Connelly, a versatile playmaker who was one of the Eagles’ top receivers while also rushing for six touchdowns in 2021. Khalil Washington is also a key name who has moved on after accounting for seven touchdowns last season, and quarterback Tyler Wesley also has to be replaced.

Who’s Back

Undoubtedly Edgewater’s biggest returning name is Cedric Baxter Jr., one of the state’s top running backs. He accounted for 20+ touchdowns last season. Chase Carter returns at quarterback after an impressive junior campaign. Two of the Eagles’ top receivers, Camp Magee and Cai Bates are back, and rising junior Kaden Shields-Dutton is a name to know as well.

Defensively, Edgewater returns its leading tackler in Damon Troutman, a rising junior who collected over 100 tackles last season. Also back for the Edgewater defense are Josh Alexander-Felton, Jamichael Montgomery, Keelan Smith, Jayden Alexander-Felton and Corey Alston.

What to Expect

After finishing the 2020 season as the Class 7A runner-up, Edgewater failed to make it past the second round of the playoffs a year ago, falling in a regional semifinal to Lake Gibson 32-14. Now the Eagles enter the 2022 campaign with a talented team that’s arguably the best in 3M-Region 1 and eager to make amends for that disappointing finish. Led by one of the state’s top running backs, Edgewater will be among the top teams in Class 3M, one capable of making a deep playoff run.

Prediction

Edgewater will win 10 games this season and reach at least a regional final.
