We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Dr. Phillips football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.
2021 Stats
- Overall Record: 4-6
- Points Scored: 230
- Points Allowed: 242
Key Losses
The Panthers’ biggest loss from last season comes on defense in linebacker DeMario Tolan, who was among the top players in the state at the position. Elsewhere on the Dr. Phillips defense, Zion Trimboli, Marquis Aneas, Kameryn Metcalf, and Jean Pierre are notable names in the secondary who have moved on, while others such as Jaydan Taylor, Tyquan Cooper-Issac, Journey Powell, Wadsen Faustin, Ritchy Augustin and Cornelius Johnson are also key losses.
Dr. Phillips’ biggest loss on offense comes from wide receiver Joanes Fortlien, while the running back duo of Amir Johnson and Rodney Wells Jr., also have to be replaced. Quarterbacks Curtis Argroves II and Jair Murphy have departed along with Kelvin Nedd and Jared Davis.
Who’s Back
The biggest returning name for Dr. Phillips comes in the trenches, where rising senior Payton Kirkland is one of the top offensive lineman in the state. Wide receiver Justin Stith is also a name to know for the Panther offense, as are running backs Adam Guzman and Amari Major, and quarterback Bjorn Jergensen.
On defense, the most significant returnee is probably defensive back Jimez Hamilton, who’s joined by Jashad Presley, Bryce Durham, and Jayden Ayal in the secondary. Tyrick Medley and Khemani Williams are more players to watch for, along with Alfred Thomas, Jerard Smith, Jeremiah Tubbs, and Shadrach Emmanuel.
What to Expect
After finishing the 2021 season at 4-6 overall, Dr. Phillips is an intriguing team to watch in Class 4M. They’re looking for a bounceback season after missing the playoffs a year ago. Based on the amount of talent returning, in particular on defense, and with a strong offensive line and running game, the Panthers are likely to make that happen.
Prediction
Dr. Phillips will win more games than they did last season, putting themselves in playoff contention in Class 4M.
