Columbia Football 2022 Team Preview

We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Columbia football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.

2021 Stats

  • Overall Record: 6-5
  • Points Scored: 263
  • Points Allowed: 253

Key Losses

Arguably the biggest name to depart the Tigers’ 2021 team is Marcus Peterson, who was one of the state’s top tight ends in the 2022 class. Quarterback Kade Jackson is also a key loss from the Columbia offense, while running back Jaelin Brown and wide receiver Jace Hoskey, who led the Tigers in receiving last season, also have to be replaced.

On defense, Jerome Fulton is a key loss in the Tiger secondary, while the same can be said for other such as Adeon Farmer, Jaden Dunn, and Noah Morris in the front seven. Among the other names who have moved on from the Columbia defense are Desavion Lee, Julius Moreland Jr, Bobby Miller, Kendle Baker, Jihycein Weston, and Garris Reed.

Who’s Back

The Columbia offense will be headlined by returning quarterback Evan Umstead, while leading rusher Tony Fulton is back to lead the Tigers’ backfield alongside Malik Moore. Tray Tolliver is arguably the biggest overall name on the 2022 Columbia offense. The rising senior will lead a wide receiver group that also includes Keeven Young and Bynton Edge.

The Tigers return some few noteworthy players on defense, led by the duo of linebacker Jaden Robinson and defensive back Amare Ferrell. Columbia’s secondary should be a strength, with names such as Kani Fulton, Jerome Carter III, and D’mari Bruce returning alongside Ferrell. Tyrell Peterson, Richard Williams, Markeyon Moore, and Rashod Bradley are also among the defensive names to know.

What to Expect

Columbia made a Class 6A playoff appearance a year ago, but was eliminated in the first round, falling to Riverside 17-3. The Tigers undoubtedly have playoff aspirations again this year, and based on the amount of returning talent alone, should be in contention at season’s end. Assuming they get there, don’t be surprised if they make a deep run.

Prediction

Columbia will win seven games and make a playoff appearance.
