Should Colleges Require a Physical Education Course?

Currently in the United States the amount of colleges that require mandatory physical education courses is at an all time low. Williams College, located in New England, is one of the few colleges that still requires their students to take physical education courses. The University’s requirements include: 4 physical education credits to be taken during their students first two years and for students to pass a swim test. The college claims they do this to encourage physical involvement on campus. This tactic clearly has an impact, since over 60% of students compete on at least one varsity, junior varsity, or club team. So should other colleges follow suit or should required physical education courses be left at the elementary and high school level?
