Chaminade-Madonna Football 2022 Team Preview

We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Chaminade-Madonna football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.

2021 Stats

  • Overall Record: 12-1
  • Points Scored: 426
  • Points Allowed: 128

Key Losses

While there weren’t many key losses on offense, Chaminade-Madonna lost a significant amount of production on the defensive side of the ball. Headlining that group was the star pass rushing duo of Kenyatta Jackson and Jamaal Johnson, who combined for an eye-popping 39 sacks last season.

Elsewhere on the Chaminade-Madonna defense, the Lions lost three key names from what was a loaded secondary: Ryan Turner, Brian Dilworth, and Jeremiah McGill. Charles Williams, Jordan Lynch, Brett Hoffman, Cahlede Jackson, and Charles McCoy III also have all moved on.

Who’s Back

Chaminade-Madonna essentially returns all of its offensive production. That unit is led by quarterback Cedrick Bailey and running back Davion Gause, who will run behind an offensive line anchored by William Larkins and Deandre Duffus. Joining Gause in the backfield is do-it-all playmaker Duane Thomas Jr., while the Lions’ receiving corps might be the best in the state. It features Jeremiah Smith, Edwin Joseph, and transfer addition Joshisa Trader.

The Lions’ defense doesn’t lack for talent, either – in fact, their secondary will be among the best in the state. That DB group features Zaquan Patterson, D’Angelo Ponds, Jeno Junius, Chris Ewald, and transfer addition Luke Evans. Leading the Lions’ defensive front is rising senior Wayne Peart, while other names such as Bryce Stringer and Denzel Johnson also return.

What to Expect

Chaminade-Madonna is the defending Class 3A state champions, and you’ll find few teams statewide more impressive than they were late last season, allowing only three total points defensively during the entirety of the playoffs. The returning talent on both sides of the ball for Chaminade-Madonna is significant, with the Lions’ offense in particular being among the state’s best this season.

One of Florida’s top teams regardless of classification, the Lions are a team with very few weaknesses on paper entering the season. They should be considered the top team in Class 1M, as well as the state title favorite.

Prediction

Chaminade-Madonna will win at least 10 games and play for a state championship.
