Beachside Football 2023 Team Preview

Beachside Football 2023 Team Preview

We tell you everything you need to know about the 2023 Beachside football team, including roster changes and what fans can expect from the Barracudas this season.

2022 Stats

  • Overall Record: 6-4
  • Points Scored:  336
  • Points Allowed: 228

Key Losses

None. A first-year school and football program in 2022, Beachside had no senior graduates.

Who’s Back

Beachside will return everyone, and according to coach Pete Duffy, who kickstarted the program with players in grades 9-11, a core group of key players from year one will be expected to lead the young program in its second season.

Topping that list is Bryce Gee, a 6-foot, 3-inch, 190-pound senior wideout. He has six D-1 offers, and according to Duffy, he has committed to Appalachian State.

Cohen Beebe, another senior WR, caught 43 passes for 670 yards and 11 TDs last season. Will Dudley is a senior who also played WR last season. He caught 41 passes for 521 yards and 6 TDs. Duffy lists him as a LB for 2023. Ari Graham, a 6-foot, 6-inch, 305-pound senior OT, will likely receive attention from recruiters this season. Nigel Ethridge is a junior DE/RB with good size at 6 feet, 2 inches and 215 pounds.

Duffy says three newcomers are expected to make an impact: senior RB/DB Cade Gines, sophomore QB Eddie Jordan, and senior DT Aiden Rivera.

What to Expect

When I predicted a win total for the new Beachside football program a year ago, I said one or two wins would not be too bad. The Barracudas were thinking much bigger.

For a newly established football program to win six games in its first season of existence, playing against established schools and programs is certainly something that Duffy can use to motivate his Beachside team heading into the 2022 campaign.

The Barracudas may be a new program, but their head coach is anything but inexperienced. Duffy coached high school football for more than two decades in California before being tabbed to come to Florida and launch Beachside High’s new team. He came to Beachside with 198 wins to his credit, but the six wins in 2022 may have been some of his most impressive.

Now, what to expect in year number two? It’s hard to think the Beachside football team won’t be even better in 2023.

Prediction

7-3 season.

Game to Watch

The season opener against Tocoi Creek on August 25 will again pit St. Johns County’s two newest programs against each other.
