Atlantic Coast Football 2022 Team Preview

We tell you everything you need to know about the 2022 Atlantic Coast football team in this preview. We take a look at roster changes and what fans can expect from the team this season.

2021 Stats

  • Overall Record: 6-5
  • Points Scored: 239
  • Points Allowed: 230

Key Losses

The Stingrays’ biggest loss comes with the graduation of running back Arthur Walker, one of the focal points of the Atlantic Coast offense. He rushed for 1,291 yards and 16 touchdowns last season. Quarterback Jacob Corley was also a key name on offense, as well as receivers Ezra Barbee and Daniel Dawson, and running back Kendall Mathis.

Defensively, Atlantic Coast must replace three of its leading tacklers in Rontavion Scott, Jahiem Odom and Janari Grimsley, each of whom collected more than 70 tackles a year ago. Tyrez Fluellen is also a key name along the Stingrays’ defensive front who has moved on, along with a few other impact defensive players such as Thomas McCallum, Shannon Carter and Jabari Anthony.

Who’s Back

The most notable returnees for Atlantic Coast come on defense, in particular the front seven. Rising junior DE Camden Hardy is the leader of that group, having totaled 57 tackles with five sacks a year ago, while other key names such as Elijah Bell, Cameron Simon, Shaku Sangarie and Gary Rhett also are back, along with Carter Ladd, who transferred from Episcopal.

On offense, the biggest returning contributor is rising senior tight end Cash Horswill, who not only was among the Stingrays’ top receivers last season, but also was a key blocker in the run game. Other skill players will be relying on breakout seasons, with rising junior running back Jerimy Upson a name to watch for.

What to Expect

The Stingrays have made the playoffs across each of the past two seasons and have everything needed to make it three straight in 2022. Actually doing so will depend on a few younger players taking their games to the next level, in particular on the offensive side of the ball. The returning talent along Atlantic Coast’s defensive front likely will be a difference maker for the team this season.

The Stingrays certainly are among the top preseason teams in Class 4M-District 1; don’t be surprised if they turn in one of their best seasons in recent years.

Prediction

Atlantic Coast will win seven games this season and make their third consecutive playoff appearance.
