Known as “A-Rod,” Alex Rodriguez was a star shortstop who attended Westminster Christian in Miami, Florida, where he was regarded as the top baseball prospect in the country.
Rodriguez was named the USA Baseball Junior Player of the Year and the Gatorade National Baseball Student-Athlete of the Year during his junior season, when he led Westminster to a national championship.
Rodriguez followed up that performance by hitting .505 with 9 HRs, 36 RBIs, and 35 SBs during his senior season, when he was selected as a First-Team All-American.
A-Rod was the first high school player to ever try out for the US National Team, as he finished high school hitting .419 with 90 stolen bases and was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 1993 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners.
