With the first round having now officially passed, here are our playoff predictions for this Friday’s matchups in the second round of the 2022 Alabama high school football postseason, beginning with a look at Class 7A.
Class 7A
The Alabama high school Class 7A state quarterfinals are set to take place this Friday night, with four playoff games comprised solely of teams from regions 2-3. Auburn and Central-Phenix City are big favorites, while the two games featuring 7A-Region 3 teams will likely be close, and could honestly go either way.

Class 6A
The Class 6A second-round slate offers a number of intriguing matchups, including the storyline of whether St. Paul’s Episcopal and Parker can pick up yet another big win after upset victories a week ago. A few of these games could also be close as well, with the showdown between Saraland and Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa arguably the biggest, as both teams are currently ranked in the Top 10 of our Classes 4A-7A rankings.

Handley-T.R. Miller could be the game to watch for in 4A – the result there could go either way.

Alabama high school Class 2A has one of the biggest playoff matchups in the state this week, as well as a few other notable games that could be close. Expect Highland Home and Ariton to go either way, likely even being decided by a score late in the fourth quarter.

Don’t be surprised if a few of these other contests end up being one-possession games either, as Elba-Sweet Water and Meek-Pickens County could be close as well.

On top of the second-round matchups in the AHSAA Friday night, the AISA state semifinals will also be played. In Class 3A, Lee-Scott and Glenwood are considered favorites this week; should they both win, it would set up a potential state title matchup between the two rivals.

AISA Class 2A
As with AISA 3A, there are arguably two favorites in the AISA Class 2A state semifinals, Patrician and Chambers. Should those two teams win, it would set up a state title matchup between rivals that fell in the AISA 2A state semifinals a year ago.

AISA Class 1A
Concluding here with a look at AISA 1A, the Jackson-Crenshaw Christian matchup could be one of the most intriguing in the AISA. The Eagles are the favorite there. Lowndes is a favorite as well, and would set up an intriguing state title matchup if both were to win.
