With only two weeks remaining in the regular season and the playoffs looming closer and closer, games are more important as ever in Alabama high school football. Here are some of the biggest matchups in Week 10, headlined by a showdown in Alabaster between two Class 7A heavyweights.
Thompson vs. Hoover
In Alabama high school football’s top Week 10 game this Friday night, Thompson will host Hoover in the regular season finale for both teams. This game will likely decide the winner of Class 7A-Region 3. The teams, both ranked in the top 5 of our Class 4A-7A Top 25 rankings, split their two meetings a year ago as the Buccaneers won 24-21 in the regular season and the Warriors won 35-10 in the state semifinals.

Andalusia vs. Montgomery Catholic
While this matchup may not necessarily have the same name brand recognition as Thompson vs. Hoover, make no mistake, Andalusia hosting Montgomery Catholic in a showdown of Class 4A-Region 2 unbeatens is a monumental match. The contest, which will decide the region, features two of the state’s top running backs, Jeremiah Cobb and J’Marion Burnette, but the result may come down to the play of quarterbacks Caleb McCreary and Jack Lathrop.
Prediction: Montgomery Catholic 35, Andalusia 24
Theodore vs. Saraland
In yet another undefeated-vs-undefeated showdown, Theodore hosts Saraland in a matchup that will likely decide Class 6A-Region 1. The Bobcats defense, which is allowing only 8.9 points per game, will be matched up against an electric Saraland offense (43.8 ppg) led by the trio of KJ Lacey, Santae McWilliams Jr, and Ryan Williams.
Prediction: Saraland 30, Theodore 24
UMS-Wright vs. Faith Academy
Likely the week’s biggest matchup in Class 5A comes in the Mobile area as UMS-Wright will put its undefeated 8-0 record on the line against Faith Academy in a big 5A-Region 1 matchup. The Bulldogs were victorious in this contest a year ago, defeating the Rams 34-26.
Prediction: UMS-Wright 35, Faith Academy 24
Mountain Brook vs. Gardendale
Mountain Brook will host Gardendale on Friday night in this matchup that will likely decide Class 6A-Region 5. The Spartans have been dominant at times this season, outscoring opponents a combined 310-95. They’ll be matched up against a Gardendale team that has won three straight and is led by led by four-star prospect Kelby Collins.

Prattville vs. Auburn
After suffering its first loss of the season last Friday at Central-Phenix City, Auburn (7-1) hits the road again this week, traveling to Prattville to face the Lions (6-2) in a Class 7A-Region 2 matchup. Prattville comes into this Alabama high school Week 10 game on a five-game winning streak.
