The most important week of the 2021-22 Alabama High School Boys Basketball season has finally arrived as the Final Four begins for Classes 7A-1A. While there are multiple matchups set to be played in the coming days, let’s look at the Top 5 Final Four games of the week.
Spain Park vs Enterprise
You could argue that there are three clear-cut top Final Four matchups this week, with the first coming from Class 7A with Spain Park facing Enterprise.
Since losing three-straight back in late January, the Jaguars have won eight consecutive games, but are facing-off against 2020-21 7A runner-up Enterprise who has rattled-off back-to-back dominant playoff wins over Auburn and Smiths Station. This should be a close contest throughout, and features many talented scorers, with arguably none bigger than Enterprise senior forward Elijah Terry.
Huffman vs McGill-Toolen
Class 6A will have a new state champion in 2021-22, with all four teams set to play in the Final Four compared to a year ago. While both matchups are intriguing, you could argue that Huffman facing McGill-Toolen is the better of the two.
Huffman is coming off a 59-56 win over defending 6A state champion Mountain Brook in the regional final, and will be facing a McGill-Toolen team led by the state’s top recruit in four-star Arkansas commit Barry Dunning. This game will be a must-see from start to finish, and will likely be decided late in the fourth quarter.
Cullman vs Park Crossing
Speaking of the Class 6A Final Four, Cullman vs Park Crossing is just as good of a matchup as Huffman vs McGill-Toolen previously.
Cullman enters this contest having won eight straight, but face-off against The Thunderbirds that has also won eight in-a-row, a stretch that includes a 59-58 regional final win over Eufaula. As anticipated this game will also be close throughout, as well as potentially the hardest Final Four game to predict.
Ramsay vs Carroll
Possibly the most underrated Final Four matchup of the week comes from Class 5A when Ramsay takes on Carroll.
Despite struggling at times early in the year, Ramsay has won nine-straight entering the week, and will be facing a Carroll team that defeated Charles Henderson 70-67 in the regional final. The Eagles are undoubtedly one of the top teams in 5A, but are matched up with a Ramsay team that is playing good basketball at the moment.
Winfield vs Southside-Selma
While a Class 2A showdown between Section and Lanett is also an intriguing option for the final game on this list, the 3A matchup between Winfield and Southside-Selma is too good not to include.
Led by one of the state’s top scorers in guard Ja’borri McGhee, Winfield has been one of the arguable favorites in 3A all year, but are facing a red-hot Panthers team fresh-off back-to-back impressive wins over Hillcrest-Evergreen and Cottage Hill Christian. Southside-Selma is playing well at the moment, but stopping McGhee and the Pirates will certainly be a tough task.
