As a result of her impressive stretch to begin the 2023-24 season, Auburn basketball player Syriah Daniels has been voted the ITG Next Alabama December 2023 Female Athlete of the Month.
Daniels received 42.44% of the possible votes over three additional finalists: Victory Christian basketball’s Haley Hendrix, Wenonah basketball’s Samarian Franklin, and Shoals Christian basketball’s Sarah Davis.
Daniels had a strong start to the year in November, averaging 25.8 PPG, 9.5 RPG, 2 APG, 2.3 SPG, and 1 BPG in four games as 17th-ranked Auburn went 3-1. The Auburn guard posted three double-doubles during that stretch, in wins over Carver-Montgomery, Brewbaker Tech, and Oxford. The season opener against the Wolverines was perhaps her top performance – 33 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocks.
Her strong play continued into December, bringing her averages to 24.6 PPG, 7.9 RPG, 2 APG, and 3.9 SPG through her first seven games of the season, while shooting 63% from the field. Daniels has showed no signs of slowing down as Auburn has become one of the top basketball teams in Class 7A so far.
