A Look Back at the High School Careers of the Kansas Jayhawks’ Top Players

After spending the 2021-22 regular season as one of college basketball’s top teams, the Kansas Jayhawks were officially crowned national champions on April 4 by defeating North Carolina 72-69. The Jayhawks featured a talented roster from top-to-bottom. Here, we look back at the high school careers of Kansas’ top stars. (All rankings courtesy of 247Sports Composite.)

Ochai Agbaji

The 2021-22 Big 12 Player of the Year, Agbaji is coming off a superb senior season in which he averaged 18.8 points per game (PPG) to earn numerous honors including First Team All-American and First Team All-Big 12.

Agbaji was a four-star recruit in the Class of 2018. He attended Oak Park High School in Kansas City, MO, where he averaged 25.3 PPG and 7.3 RPG across his junior and senior seasons. Earning honors such as 2017-18 GKCBCA Player of the Year during that span, Agbaji was also rated as the nation’s No. 132 overall player back in 2018, as well as the No. 4 player in Missouri.

Christian Braun

Braun, a Second Team All-Big 12 selection who averaged a career-high 14.1 PPG this past season, is coming off his third season for the Kansas Jayhawks, and his second in a starting role.

A three-star recruit out of high school in the Class of 2019, Braun was an in-state prospect who attended Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, KS. He was rated as the No. 130 overall player nationally and fashioned a high school career that included more than 1,000 points, three state championships, and 2018-19 Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year honors.

Jalen Wilson

Wilson, a Third Team All-Big 12 selection, is coming off an almost identical junior season to his sophomore campaign, with averages of 11.1 PPG and 7.4 RPG in 2021-22.

Wilson was a four-start prospect at Guyer High School in Denton, TX, where he was a four-year starter who averaged a combined 17.1 PPG, 6.9 RPG, and 3.2 APG across his junior and senior seasons for one of Texas’ top teams. A Top 100 recruit, Wilson was rated the No. 53 overall player in the Class of 2019.

David McCormack

Also a Third Team All-Big 12 selection, McCormack averaged an impressive 10.6 PPG and 7 RPG on 50.8 percent shooting and took his game to next level during March Madness o earn NCAA All-Tournament honors.

McCormack was the nation’s No. 36 overall player in the Class of 2018. He attended national powerhouse Oak Hill Academy, where he averaged 12 PPG and 9.1 RPG over his junior and senior seasons. The four-star had a spectacular senior season in 2017-18, including 14 double-doubles, and set an Oak Hill single-season record with 308 rebounds.

Remy Martin

An offseason transfer from Arizona State, where he was a three-time All-Pac 12 selection, Martin played a key role for the Kansas Jayhawks by averaging 8.6 PPG while shooting 38.2 percent from three-point range.

The former four-star high school prospect attended Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, CA before taking his talents to Arizona State. He was the nation’s No. 84 overall player and also held offers from Kansas, USC, and UConn.
