Lee-Scott Academy Basketball Player Haiden Harper Named ITG Next Alabama Male Athlete of the Month for February 2024
One of the state’s top scorers throughout the 2023-24 season, Lee-Scott Academy basketball player Haiden Harper has been voted the ITG Next Alabama Male Athlete of the Month for February 2024 as a result of his on-court play from January.
Harper, a basketball player, received 64.61% of the possible votes to receive the honor over three additional finalists. Those finalists were Reeltown indoor track & field’s Arthur Woods, Valiant Cross basketball’s Deshawn Hall, and Cold Springs indoor track & field’s Ethan Edgeworth.
As for Harper, the talented scorer helped lead Lee-Scott to a 9-4 record during January, which also happened to be a month that included four losses for the Warriors, a team who only lost five games all season.
Across those 13 games, Harper averaged a combined 22.3 PPG for the Warriors, along with 4.3 RPG, 3 APG, 2.3 SPG, and 0.2 BPG. January also featured Harper’s lone double-double of the 2023-24 season, which came in a big 53-41 road win at Glenwood where he had 15 points, 11 rebounds, three assists, and three steals for the Warriors.
Also included in the month for Harper were nine games of 20+ points, as well as one 30+ point performance in a 35-point showing in a 55-48 win over Macon-East back on January 16. Harper also flirted with the 30-point mark in wins over Springwood and Fort Dale where he had 27 and 26, respectively, on January 5-6.
With the Warriors 2023-24 season having recently come to a close with an AISA Class 3A state championship as well, it’s hard to overlook the impact Harper had toward a Lee-Scott team that finished at 27-5 overall.
Across 30 games, Harper averaged a combined 22.3 PPG to lead the Warriors, as well as rank among the state’s leaders, while also averaging 3.6 RPG, 2.4 APG, 2.3 SPG, and 0.2 BPG. Harper also had 19 games with at-least 20+ points, as well as a noteworthy season-high of 43 during a 73-65 win over Abbeville Christian back on December 16.
