Alabama High School Football Way-Too-Early 2024 Rankings

With last week’s AHSAA Super 7 games in the books, let’s take a way-too-early look ahead to the 2024 Alabama high school football season. Following are our projected Top-10 power rankings, combining all classifications.

10. Gulf Shores (5A)

We begin with the Gulf Shores Dolphins, who are coming off an unbeaten 15-0 season in which they outscored opponents 576-138 on their way to winning the Class 5A state title. The Dolphins will return one of the state’s top running backs in Kolin Wilson.

9. Vestavia Hills (7A)

Vestavia Hills reached the second round of the Class 7A state playoffs this season, finishing at 9-3 overall. They’ll return a roster headlined offensively by running back William Tonsmeiere.

8. Auburn (7A)

The Tigers fell in the second round of the Class 7A state playoffs to finish the 2023 Alabama high school football season at 9-3. Their 2024 roster includes returning starters such as Omar Mabson, among others.

7. Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa (6A)

The Patriots posted an impressive 2023 season, finishing with a 12-1 record and a Class 6A state quarterfinals appearance, and outscoring opponents 515-116.

6. Parker (6A)

The Thundering Herd fell in the Class 6A state semifinals to finish the 2023 Alabama high school football at 12-2. In 2024 they’ll return names such as Na’eem Offord and Jourdin Crawford, among others, next season.

5. Hewitt-Trussville (7A)

Hewitt-Trussville is coming off a 9-4 season that ended in the Class 7A state semifinals. The Huskies will return players such as Michael Igbinoghene and Parker Floyd in 2024.

4. Clay-Chalkville (6A)

The Clay-Chalkville Cougars are coming off a 14-0 season in which they outscored opponents 551-165 en route to winning the Class 6A state title. They will return a talented group headlined by Aaron Osley next season.

3. Thompson (7A)

Falling just short of a five-peat by losing in the Class 7A state title game, Thompson finished 2023 with an 11-2 record. The Warriors will return a talented group led by Anquon Fegans and Jared Smith on defense, and Trent Seaborn on offense.

2. Central-Phenix City (7A)

The Central-Phenix City Red Devils are coming off a 13-0 season in which they outscored opponents 556-164 and won the Class 7A state title. They will return a talented group featuring the likes of Andrew Alford, Mal Waldrep and Daylyn Upshaw in 2024.

1. Saraland (6A)

Holding the No. 1 ranking in our way-too-early Alabama high school football rankings for 2024 is Saraland, which concluded the 2023 season as the Class 6A state runner-up. The Spartans, who recorded a 14-1 record and outscored opponents 754-221, bring back a skilled group of starters that includes Ryan Williams, KJ Lacey, Antonio Coleman, Dillon Alfred, and more.
