ITG Next spoke with Gulf Breeze volleyball head coach Jasmine King about the Dolphins’ success a year ago, as well as their start to the 2022 season.
Q: Looking back at last season, what did the 2021 team and senior class mean to this Gulf Breeze volleyball program overall?
A: The previous senior class was a huge contributor to the success of our program. Winning the last three district titles, we had several seniors on the team last year who were a part of those wins all three years. They also built the program culture up to the standard in which we practice now.
Q: With the 2022 season now getting fully underway, what have you seen from this Dolphins team so far that impresses you most?
A: What I have seen this year that has impressed me most is how deep we are. We have a deep bench that I have confidence in to push our starters, but also be ready to get on the court and make a difference when given the opportunity to.
Q: Who are some names that could play key roles for this team going forward?
A: This season and moving forward some key people you will hear about are senior captain Camryn Brooks, #1, who is a 6 rotation, outside hitter. Senior middle Alana Kolb and senior DS Jordyn Gerow. Sophomore DS Sarah Frazee and sophomore Bella Satterwhite, who is returning 6 rotation outside for us.
Q: Overall, what excites you most about what this 2022 Gulf Breeze team could accomplish this year?
A: What excites me the most about what they can accomplish is finally getting to a regional final. We suffer a very tough regional lineup, potentially going against Leon again, and returning 5S state champions Mosley just to make it to state, but so far we were able to play Leon and won in 5, and we will see Mosley in the regular season. So we will get some good looks before we start postseason.
