Key Losses

On offense, the Seminoles have to replace quarterback Drew Faurot and two-way star Tre Donaldson, who saw time at several positions. Also gone are two notable receivers, Brody Brooks and Geordan Henderson, who ranked among Florida State’s leaders at the position.

As for the defense, Florida State lost its top two tacklers, Jordan Gilley and Jelani Hall. Diego Duprey, defensive lineman Billy Roath and Chason Reiff are other key contributors who have moved on.

Who’s Back

Florida State returns one of the more notable running back duos in the area in Rhyder Poppell and Micahi Danzy. The duo combined to rush for more than 1,400 yards and 23 touchdowns a year ago. Quarterback Jeremy Johnston is a name to watch for, along with the receiving trio of Brooks Hickman, Kesean Inman, and Ashton Hampton.

On the defensive side of the ball, one of the Seminoles’ top pass rushers, Ryan Knight, returns alongside two prominent tacklers, Chris Cotton and Eli Williams. Other notable returnees include DJ Broxton, Donovan Barnes and Tay Young.

What to Expect

Florida State reached the 2021 state semifinal round in Class 3A before falling to eventual state champion Chaminade-Madonna. A strong case can be made that the Seminoles have everything needed to make another deep playoff run this season. They’ll certainly be among the top teams in their region entering the season.

Prediction

Florida State will win 8+ games this season, and reach at least the regional semifinal round of the playoffs.
