Key Losses
Most of Fleming Island’s notable losses are on defense, headlined by the duo of Dedric Walker and Jaronn Saulsberry, two of the Golden Eagles’ top tacklers in 2021. Both players will be sorely missed, as will lineman Ricky Joseph.
On offense, Fleming Island’s biggest loss is wide receiver Caleb Jones. A key piece of the Golden Eagles’ offense a year ago, he ranked among team leaders in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.
Who’s Back
The Golden Eagles return two significant names in running back Samuel Singleton and linebacker Abram Wright, both of whom are among the top players in the state at their position. Singleton was by far Fleming Island’s leading rusher a year ago, while Abram was one of the top tacklers on the defensive side of the ball.
Quarterback Cibastian Broughton is back on offense, along with Musthafa Marshall, Jhace Edwards, Darion Domineck and Brenden Cook. On defense, Jhoel Robinson and Walker Whiddon are some of the headliners, along with others such as Devante Lewis and Joey Couch.
What to Expect
Not only does Fleming Island return one of the state’s top running backs, but a majority of the Golden Eagles’ offensive production is back in 2022. Consequently, they enter the season with a high level of excitement surrounding the program.
Look for monster senior seasons from names such as Singleton and Wright, and for the Golden Eagles overall to have a strong showing. If you’re looking for a potential sleeper in Class 4S-Region 1, Fleming Island just might be one to follow.

Fleming Island will win eight games and make a playoff appearance.
