In almost every Florida high school football season, a few players will burst onto the state-wide scene as sophomores, continuing what were promising freshman campaigns the year prior. With that in mind, we look at five Class of 2025 prospects who could have breakout seasons this year in the Sunshine State.
Ennio Yapoor – Norland
You may have heard Yapoor’s name at some point during Champagnat Catholic’s run to the 2A state title game a year ago. If you didn’t, that will likely change this season. One of the top Class of 2025 quarterback prospects in Florida, Yapoor transferred to Norland during the offseason after an impressive freshman campaign in which he threw for 3,300 yards with a 26:4 TD:INT ratio, while also rushing for 530 yards and 11 scores.
Colin Hurley – Trinity Christian
On the topic of quarterbacks, you simply cannot talk about Yapoor without mentioning Hurley as well. Hurley also played in that 2A title game a year ago, leading Trinity Christian to the championship as a freshman while passing for 2,146 yards with a 24:12 TD:INT ratio. He is very quickly turning into one of Florida’s top 2025 quarterback recruits.
Donovan Johnson – IMG Academy
IMG Academy has two of the nation’s top 2024 running backs in Jerrick Gibson and Stacy Gage on their roster, as well as one of the top names in 2025 in Johnson, who transferred in the offseason from Calvary Day High School in Georgia. The sophomore should play a role in a loaded Ascenders backfield in 2022 after a 2021 campaign in which he rushed for 1,336 yards and 10 touchdowns.
Armondo Blount – Dillard
If you’re looking for the next great pass rusher to rise up in the Florida high school football ranks, look no further than Blount. The Dillard sophomore collected 13 sacks for the Panthers a year ago as a freshman, and could easily surpass that total in 2022.
Winston Watkins Jr – IMG Academy
The final name on this list of top Florida Class of 2025 prospects is Watkins, a Texas A&M commit who is one of the top rising wide receivers in the Sunshine State. IMG Academy has a loaded wide receiver room again this season, and the sophomore should play a role for the Ascenders. He primarily played a reserve role at the position in 2021.
In addition to those five, here are a few other Florida Class of 2025 prospects to watch for this fall:
- OL Kaden Strayhorn – IMG Academy
- LB Ezekiel Marcelin – Miami Central
- DL Davion Dixon – Belen Jesuit
- S DJ Pickett – Zephyrhills
- CB Chris Ewald – Chaminade-Madonna
- CB Amari Wallace – Miami Central
