4 Questions With Ribault Football Head Coach Marlon White
We spoke with Ribault football head coach Marlon White about the challenges his program faced last year and what we can expect in 2021.
Q: What is your playing and coaching background?
A: I started three years at quarterback and cornerback for the Terrell’s Bay Wildcats in Centenary, South Carolina. I played one year at North Greenville College in Tigerville, South Carolina, prior to joining the Air Force.
After my 20 years of service, I coached wide receivers and became the run game coordinator at Eastern Wayne High School in Goldsboro, North Carolina. The following year, I became defensive coordinator at Northeast Guilford, followed by stints at Bishop McGuiness and Atkins High School, all of which led me to my current position as head coach of the Ribault Trojans.
Q: When did you arrive at Ribault?
A: I arrived at Ribault on February 3, 2020.
Q: What has been your biggest accomplishment and challenge since taking the Ribault coaching job?
A: I think the biggest accomplishment thus far has been leading the team to the third round of the playoffs last season. That was something that had not been accomplished in 26 years, and it gave our team a true boost of confidence and set the expectation for this upcoming season.
The biggest challenge had to be the pandemic. We had to shift the way we taught and knew football from previous years. Even though we were hindered a bit, I also believe it made us better coaches and (made us) have more appreciation for the game we love.
Q: What are your expectations for the upcoming season with the team you have?
A: 1-0. That is our goal and motto for this season. Don’t look any further than the upcoming game that is on the schedule. We had a great offseason, and it has been impressive to see our young players develop thus far. I am looking forward to seeing the final product we will put on the field this fall.
