4 Questions With Paxon Baseball Coach George Wahl
We spoke with Paxon baseball coach George Wahl to get his insights on this season.
Q: How long have you been the head baseball coach at Paxon?
A: I am entering my third year at Paxon.
Q: What’s the history of the Paxon baseball program?
A: It’s been a quality program for a long time. (They) made their way into the postseason in 2009, and we were lucky enough to do the same my first year there in 2019, losing in the regional championship. Lots of quality talent to come out of Paxon, including recently 2020 RHP Lebarron Johnson Jr., who is currently playing for the Texas Longhorns. Sean Reid-Foley spent some time there as well as a freshman. Lots of good players and memories had for the Eagles over the years.
Q: How was it last season battling through the COVID issues? How many games did you guys wind up playing?
A: It was tough, a hard pill to swallow for the seniors, especially, but also the young guys who lost a year’s worth of development. We managed to keep everyone safe and healthy and come out on the other side in a positive light.
Q: Hopefully, the worst is behind us. How has this season been so far?
A: It’s been fun. Happy to have kids back on the field and even happier to be playing baseball again. Schedule was brutal in Week 1, but we’re a young group led by two very good juniors in Eli Maddox and Thomas Hoff, who will find a rhythm and be a tough out every night when we line up.
