4 Questions With Coral Springs Basketball Coach Devin Barta

Our Florida “4 Questions” segment this week features Coral Springs basketball head coach Devin Barta, who discusses the Colts’ upcoming 2022-23 season.

Q: You’re coming off a season that included a district championship. What are your thoughts on what this Coral Springs basketball program accomplished a year ago?

A: Last season, like most seasons, was filled with ups and downs. We started the year off really hot, going 11-2, then hit a tough stretch where we really struggled. I was super proud of my group for battling through adversity and bringing it together for the district tournament and  ultimately bringing home our fifth district championship in the last seven years.

Q: Looking ahead to this year, what are your thoughts on the potential of this Colts team?

A: We lost all five starters from last year’s team and our young group will really need to step up and see if they can lead this year’s team. Although young, we have an unselfish and talented group. I am excited to coach this team.

Q: What would you say are some of the strengths of this 2022-23 Coral Springs basketball team?

A: I would say the main strength of this team is our unselfishness and togetherness. This group does not care who gets the press clippings or shines. They only care about winning and really playing for each other. They are friends on and off the court.

Q: Who are some players that could make a key impact this season?

A: Key players will include junior Romae Brown, junior Walter Pierre Louis, sophomore Alex Pierre Louis, and sophomore Jevah Chervin. Besides Walter and Alex being brothers, these four have been playing together since sixth grade and have a special bond.

Romae Brown is a 6-4 forward who can score and rebound the ball, as well as set up teammates with his passing. Walter Pierre Louis is a 6-3 scoring two guard who can score from the outside. Alex Pierre Louis is a strong 6-3 guard who can score getting to the basket and hitting shots from the outside. Jevah Chervin is a 6-2 defensive minded point guard who has a non-stop motor on the defensive end and also is a great passer on the offensive side of the ball.
