4 Questions With Blessed Trinity Baseball Coach Andy Harlin
We spoke with Blessed Trinity baseball coach Andy Harlin to get his thoughts on this season. Listen to the Blessed Trinity Baseball Coach’s Show for a bi-weekly update on the team.
Q: What has been your coaching path that brought you to Blessed Trinity?
A: I started out at St. Pius X in Atlanta. I was there for 12 years, eight as head coach. I went to Blessed Trinity in 2001 and have been here for 20 years.
Q: Blessed Trinity, like every other team in the state, saw their 2020 season come to an abrupt end due to COVID-19. How did you as the head coach guide your players through this rough patch?
A: I think, like anybody, at first you’re kind of in shock with a confused look on your face, but then you learn to deal with it. You just try and find positives and not worry about things you can’t control. I think that’s the message, that and appreciate every minute we’re together and on the field, not to take anything for granted. You realize how much you love your team and the game when it’s taken away.
Q: So far, things look good for the current season. How is your team doing?
A: Just trying to take things one step at a time. It’s cliché, but it’s true. It’s overwhelming to look too far ahead, especially when you don’t know what tomorrow holds. Bust it each day and enjoy every minute.
Q: What will it take for your Titans to win the state title this season?
A: I think, like anybody, to give yourself a chance, you have to pitch well and protect the ball. Outside of that, our golden rules are be on time and bust it. We feel that those two things bring a team closer where they look out for each other and have each other’s backs. There are a lot of great teams out there, so it’s a tremendous challenge, but that’s why you play.
