Brookwood football just lost four highly recruited players who all opted to transfer to North Cobb for their senior season. Wide receivers De’Nylon Morrissette and Samuel Mbake and cornerbacks Marquis Groves-Killebrew and Andre Stewart all had standout seasons with the Broncos in 2020, but they’ll be suiting up for the Warriors in 2021.
Brookwood was expecting to pair junior four-star QB Dylan Lonergan with top targets Mbake and Morrissette this season, giving the Broncos one of the more prolific offenses in the state. With Groves-Killebrew and Stewart in the defensive backfield, possibly as a shutdown corner, the defense was also set to be one of the more formidable around.
Brookwood was easily a top-10 football team, but with the transfer of all four players, it unfortunately puts the Broncos on the outside looking in at the top-10 rankings.
North Cobb was already expected to be a top-10 program in most preseason polls. Warriors QB Malachi Singleton, a junior who is ranked No. 15 in the nation, will now be paired with Morrissette and Mbake to give North Cobb one of the more threatening offenses in the state.
Defensively, the Warriors were already going to be very good, led by highly recruited defensive end Josh Johnson. Now, with Groves-Killebrew and Stewart on that side of the ball, North Cobb’s defense becomes elite.
With the additions of these four players, North Cobb goes from a top-10 team to a state championship contender almost overnight.
