With the 2022 Alabama high school football playoffs set to begin in the coming weeks, a number of teams across the state remain unbeaten. Here’s a look at those teams, from Class 6A down to 1A, with a few thoughts on their prospects for keeping those perfect records intact.
Class 6A
- Hartselle
- Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa
- Saraland
- Theodore
After Auburn’s loss last Friday night, no 7A teams are still undefeated, so we begin here with a look at 6A, where four teams have yet to lose in 2022 – Hartselle, Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa, Saraland, and Theodore.
At least one of these teams will suffer its first loss this week, as Theodore will host Saraland on Friday night, followed by another home matchup with St. Paul’s Episcopal the following week. The Spartans will return home after this week for their regular-season finale against McGill-Toolen.
As for the other two teams, Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa will conclude its regular season this Friday with a road game at McAdory. Hartselle also has only one game remaining on its regular season schedule, which will come next week at home against Bob Jones.
Class 5A
- UMS-Wright
- Leeds
With two previously unbeaten Alabama high school teams falling last week, only two squads, UMS-Wright and Leeds, remain unbeaten in Class 5A. UMS-Wright has a big matchup set for Friday night against Faith Academy, followed by another region contest at home against Williamson. Leeds also has two matchups remaining at home this season, against Lincoln and Center Point.
Class 4A
- Montgomery Catholic
- Andalusia
- Anniston
- Deshler
- Priceville
The group of five undefeated teams remaining in Class 4A will soon downsize, as Montgomery Catholic and Andalusia will square off on Friday night in the regular-season finale for both. Anniston will host Cleburne County on Friday, while Deshler will travel to Brooks and Priceville has a road matchup with Randolph.
Class 3A
- Dadeville
- Houston Academy
- Excel
- Randolph County
Dadeville has two home games remaining in the regular season, against Randolph County and Wicksburg. Randolph County winds up its regular season with a home showdown against Ranburne next week. Houston Academy has matchups remaining against Providence Christian and Pike County, and Excel finishes with WS Neal and Chipley (FL).
Class 2A
- Fyffe
- Highland Home
- Southeastern
Class 2A has three unbeatens remaining, with Fyffe likely to be favored over its two remaining opponents, Ider and Sylvania at home. Highland Home has only one game remaining, against Reeltown this Friday, while Southeastern will play both Pennington and Appalachian in the next two weeks.
Class 1A
- Elba
- Linden
- Leroy
- Meek
- Valley Head
Concluding here with Class 1A, Elba, arguably the most notable team of the group, has road matchups at Pleasant Home and McKenzie remaining in the regular season. Linden also has two road games left, which come at Johnson and Mars Hill Bible. As for the other three, Leroy will play away games at Millry and Washington County, and Valley Head will visit Gaylesville and Collinsville. Meek has three games remaining against Cherokee, Oakman, and Decatur Heritage.
Who do you think will be the last team, or teams, to remain unbeaten in Alabama high school football this season?
