Carver (Columbus) continues to impress with yet another blowout victory, the latest being a 63-7 romp over crosstown rival Columbus. The Tigers are undefeated at 5-0 and maintain their top spot in this week’s 2025 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 2A.

Pierce County isn’t far behind, with a win over Brooks County last Friday night.

Sumter County won to remain undefeated, possibly setting up a showdown between them and the top-ranked Tigers of Carver in October as long as both teams keep up their current pace.

Ringgold’s debut in our Class 2A Top 10 didn’t last long, as they fell to Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe 35-17 last week. That loss drops the Tigers out of the 10th spot and allows undefeated North Murray to slide into the ITG Next Georgia Top 10 for the first time this season.

The top four teams retain their positions in our 2025 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 2A.

Cook drops out of the No. 5 spot one week after climbing into the Top 5 following their win at Brooks County. The Hornets’ offense could not get anything going against Callaway last week and managed a field goal.

Callaway picked up its first win in Adel, Georgia, and that was enough to earn the Cavaliers a spot in this week’s rankings, debuting at the No. 10 spot.

Thomson lost to Grovetown for its second loss of the season and falls out of the rankings.

Preseason – Updated 6/24/2025

Here are ITG Next’s 2025 Georgia high school football preseason rankings for Class 2A.

Carver (Columbus) is my early favorite to repeat as state champion, but there will be a fight to the finish with Pierce County looking strong as always.

Sumter County graduated just seven players from last year’s 10-win team, and I think they’ll be right back in the mix again this year.

I like Morgan County to be a force once again as they return their quarterback and leading rusher from 2024.

Cook has an experienced O-line with some dynamic rushers heading into the 2025 season.

Despite offseason woes and losing several talented pieces, look for Appling County to be fine with new head coach Tucker Pruitt leading the Pirates in 2025.

  1. Carver (Columbus)
  2. Pierce County
  3. Callaway
  4. Morgan County
  5. Sumter County
  6. Thomson
  7. Rockmart
  8. Cook
  9. Appling County
  10. Carver (Atlanta)
