Phil Jones gives his score predictions for the top six games being played in Week 4 of the 2025 Georgia high school football season.
Brooks County vs. Worth County
The Lyndon Worthy-led Rams offense will head to Quitman to take on the Brooks County Trojans this week. While the super sophomore signal-caller has been a major reason for the Rams’ success, it’s the Worth County defense that has been the talk of the town. Three straight shutouts have paced the Rams to an undefeated start in 2025.
Can Josh McFather’s Trojans break through with the first points of the year against the Rams, on their way to a much-needed win?
Phil’s Pick: Worth County 21, Brooks County 14
Hughes vs. Douglas County
Hughes will get perhaps its toughest test of the season when they host the Tigers of Douglas County. Coach Johnny White’s Douglas County squad is off to a 3-0 start with wins over North Gwinnett, Jonesboro, and last week vs. Newton.
Hughes is also undefeated with two straight wins. They have defeated Westlake and Benjamin Mays to start their 2025 campaign under new head coach Andrico Hines.
Somebody is taking home their first loss of the year.
Who will it be?
Phil’s Pick: Douglas County 26, Hughes 20
Grayson vs. Mallard Creek (NC)
Grayson is coming off yet another big win, this time against Thompson, Alabama, after losing starting quarterback Travis Burgess the week before to a season-ending knee injury. The Rams defeated the Warriors in an overtime thriller for the second straight season, and are now 3-0 in the first month of the 2025 season.
However, that doesn’t mean things get any easier, as yet another out-of-state opponent comes calling with the Mallard Creek Mavericks from Charlotte, North Carolina, next up on the schedule.
The Rams won this matchup last year in Charlotte by a 28-14 final.
Can the Rams find a way to win yet another game against a top-tier team?
Phil’s Pick: Grayson 35, Mallard Creek 21
Rome vs. Toombs County
Rome is still looking for their first win of the season, but there’s no guarantee that it will come this week, even if it is against a team from the state’s lowest classification.
That’s because the team you’re talking about is the defending Class 1A-Division I state champion Toombs County.
To be fair, Rome has opened the season against two very tough opponents in Creekside and Carrollton. But, Toombs County has played a Class 4A and 5A school in their first three opponents in Dougherty, then South Effingham, but defeated both.
Can they make it another win over a larger school, or will some sense of reason come into play?
Phil’s Pick: Rome 35, Toombs County 21
Cook vs. Callaway
The Hornets are coming off a big win at Brooks County last week, and their 3-0 start to the year is their best start since 2012.
Callaway is looking for their first win of the year after dropping a 36-35 game at home last Thursday night.
Cook’s defense is playing lights-out, and has been the difference so far in the Hornets’ undefeated start.
Can Byron Slack’s Hornets keep the Cavaliers from winning their first game of the year, or has Callaway had enough?
Phil’s Pick: Cook 18, Callaway 12
Norcross vs. Walton
The Raiders are coming off a tough-luck loss last week at home against Roswell, and now they’ll hit the road this week to take on the Blue Devils of Norcross. Walton lost on a last-second field goal last week, while Norcross improved to 2-0 on the year following an impressive 45-28 win over Mill Creek two weeks ago. The Blue Devils were off last week.
Walton could really use a win. Will they get it?
