Top 10 Georgia High School Football Teams in Class 4A

All 10 teams in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A retain their positions from last week.

Last season the Marist War Eagles came within a game of advancing to the state title match, only to fall short with a loss to the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets, the eventual 2023 champs, in the semifinals.

After defeating Creekside last week, Marist has earned another shot and will play North Oconee for the chance at a fourth football state championship.

Last week was a rough one for Class 4A as four of the Top 10 teams in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings lost in the quarterfinals. 

No. 1 Marist defeated Cambridge, who drops down a place to No. 8. 

North Oconee beat Cartersville 28-26, causing North Oconee to take over the No. 2 spot and Cartersville to drop down to No. 5.

Benedictine and Eastside also lost and both drop down one place.

Suddenly, our Class 4A Top 10 takes on a different look from top to bottom.

The defending state champion Perry Panthers were one of three teams in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A to lose their Round 2 playoff matchups. The Panthers fell to one of the surprise teams in the state, Eastside, by a 21-10 final. 

The team that Perry met in last year’s state finals, Starr’s Mill, also bowed out of the playoffs with a loss last week to Cartersville. 

Central (Carrollton) saw their season come to an end with a loss against another surprise upstart team in Cambridge.

Two teams in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A lost their first-round playoff games last week.

Previously ranked No. 5 Cedartown suffered what is likely the biggest upset of the entire playoffs by losing to previously unranked Cambridge 51-44. 

The Warner Robins Demons, previously ranked No. 6, had one of the toughest first-round matchups with Marist and, despite a valiant effort, fell to the top-ranked War Eagles. 

Cambridge and Central (Carrollton) join the Top 10 this week.

There are no changes to our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A as teams enjoyed an off week before Round 1 of the GHSA playoffs begins. 

The Marist War Eagles of head coach Alan Chadwick hope to remain Class 4A’s top program through the playoffs.

In a week that saw some of the state’s top teams fall, Class 4A was no exception. The Starr’s Mill Panthers, who were previously undefeated and had made their way up to the No. 2 spot in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A, lost to unranked Jefferson last week. 

In a battle of ranked teams, Perry fell to Warner Robins, although that game was considered a toss-up. 

Head coach Alan Chadwick’s Marist program stays in the No. 1 spot.

2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A

In Savannah, the ITG Next live streamed Game of the Week saw Perry hold off a late Benedictine scoring attempt and win 21-17. With the win, Perry remains at No. 3 as Marist and Starr’s Mill hold on to the top two spots in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A. 

Warner Robins lost to unranked Ware County and falls to No. 8.

Perry knocked off Ware County last week and remains our No. 3 team in this week’s 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A. With their loss, Ware County falls to 3-4 and out of this week’s Top 10. 

Taking Ware County’s place and making their debut are the Eastside Eagles, who have been sitting just outside our Top 10. With another impressive victory putting them at 8-1 on the season, it’s time to reward the Eagles by making them our No. 10 ranked team this week. 

Benedictine won over Wayne County and moves up to No. 9.

Marist continues to impress and remains the No. 1 team in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A. Led by head coach Alan Chadwick, Marist got a 24-0 shutout win over St. Pius X Catholic, who had just one loss entering the contest. 

Starr’s Mill stays on the heels of Marist, running their record to 8-0 following a three-touchdown win over Harris County and climbing into the No. 2 spot. 

Benedictine’s loss had to be the biggest surprise in Class 4A last week, with the Cadets falling to the previously unranked Ware County Gators, who came into the game riding a two-game losing streak. Ware County enters this week’s poll at No. 9, while head coach Danny Britt’s Benedictine team falls to No. 10.

Starr’s Mill remains unbeaten and moves into the Top 3 of our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A after an exciting victory over Central (Carroll) last week. The Lions fall a couple of spots after the loss. 

Benedictine scored a huge win over Warner Robins, and each team retains their ranking from last week’s poll.

There are no changes in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A. 

Marist won to stay on top, and Perry rebounded from their loss against East Coweta the previous week with an 80-point performance against New Hampstead this past weekend. 

Benedictine’s game against Ware County, which had already been rescheduled once to Sept. 30, has been postponed.

For the first time this season, Perry falls out of the top spot in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A following a 31-15 loss to Class 6A’s East Coweta. 

The Marist Eagles, led by head coach Alan Chadwick, become our new No. 1 team following a fourth straight win to start the season. 

Harris County falls out of the Top 10 after an upset loss to Jonesboro. 

The Cedartown Bulldogs make their debut in the rankings this week, coming in at No. 10.

Perry keeps their No.1 spot in our updated 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A after a 38-0 win over Veterans. 

Blessed Trinity had a tall task last week with a tough matchup against Milton and ultimately fell to the top ranked Class 5A team

With Blessed Trinity falling to No. 10, North Oconee moves up one place after a dominant shutout win over Jefferson.

Half the teams in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A did not play last week, which actually served as a bye for many teams around the state. 

Of our ranked teams that did play, Cartersville, Warner Robins, Central (Carroll), and Harris County all looked impressive with big wins. 

Ware County falls out of the Top 10 following a loss to Bartram Trail (Florida).

North Oconee debuts at No. 10 after starting the season 4-0.

Perry lost to the Class 5A Houston County Bears last week, but one loss isn’t enough to derail the Panthers as the No. 1 team in our updated 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A. 

However, Creekside’s 70-point loss to Desoto (Texas) was enough to drop the Seminoles out of our Top 10. 

Blessed Trinity takes over the No. 9 spot, making their debut in our Class 4A poll.

In a much-anticipated matchup of quality Middle Georgia programs, Perry and Peach County went at it last week. The Panthers came away with the win over head coach Maurice Westbrook’s much-improved Trojans to remain atop our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 4A. 

Benedictine lost a close, 1-point contest to Buford, but showed they can play with any program, anywhere, regardless of classification. Head coach Danny Britt’s team finds themselves at 0-2 to start the season, but they remain every bit a championship contender. 

Marist stays at the No. 2 spot after a week off. 

Harris County moves up two spots after a win over Troup County.

It was a wild season-opening week as five of our top-ranked teams across all classifications lost their first game, but don’t think this will be the only time that happens. This could be one of those seasons that sees a different No. 1 each week. Here’s a look at our updated Top 10 team rankings for Class 4A after Week 1 of the 2024 Georgia high school football season.

Benedictine falls from No. 1 after dropping their season opener against Rabun Gap, opening the door for defending state champion Perry to claim the top spot. 

Marist defeated Class 3A’s Jefferson to jump up two places into the No. 2 spot. 

Harris County debuts at No. 10 after defeating Class 1A-Division II’s Manchester last week.

Preseason – Updated 8/12/2024

The 2024 Georgia high school football season is finally here, and you will notice that ITG Next’s weekly rankings have a new look. This year we will rank the Top 10 teams in each classification with a total of eight rankings. This includes a separate Top 10 ranking of the “private only” teams in Class 1A-DI, Class 2A, and Class 3A. Here is a look at our updated 2024 Georgia high school football preseason rankings for Class 4A in the new format.

If the Benedictine Cadets can survive one of the most brutal schedules of any team in the state, they will have certainly earned their top ranking. 

Perry and head coach Kevin Smith are ready to defend their state title from last season, while Warner Robins and head coach Shane Sams are eager to get the Demons back to the title game. 

Speaking of Benedictine and Perry, ITG Next will be live broadcasting the battle of the Panthers and Cadets as part of our 2024 package.
