Top 10 Georgia High School Football Teams in Class 2A

Appling County moves up to the No. 1 spot in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 2A after what was likely the biggest win in the state last week. The Pirates defeated Pierce County, our previous No. 1 team, to snap the Bears’ 18-game win streak dating back to last year. Appling County actually handed Pierce County their last defeat prior to the start of their win streak.
Last week’s No. 2 team, Morgan County, lost to Callaway and drops down to No. 7.

Carver (Atlanta) picked up an impressive 30-point win over Class 1A-3A Private Top 10 ranked Lovett to make their debut in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 2A. Carver moves into the No. 10 spot this week, forcing Hapeville Charter out.
However, Hapeville Charter will get the opportunity to prove us wrong next week with a win over Carver as the two Atlanta schools face off in their regular season finale.

Previously ranked North Murray and Stephens County both suffered big losses and fall out of this week’s 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 2A, making room for Hapeville and Thomson to enter.
In a battle of two Top-5 teams, the Carver (Columbus) Tigers showed they are indeed a team to be reckoned with in Class 2A following their 31-0 drubbing of the previously undefeated Sumter County Panthers.
The Panthers’ first loss of the season puts them at 7-1 overall and 4-1 in Region 1-2A.
Carver is also 7-1 overall, with their loss coming against unranked Harris County back in the third week of the season. The Tigers are undefeated with a 5-0 region mark.

Stephens County lost 49-7 to Prince Avenue Christian last week, but remains in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 2A, falling just one spot to No. 10.
Ringgold moves up one spot to No. 9, and Pierce County remains solid at No. 1 after a big win over Cook.

Two of the Top 5 teams in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 2A, Carver (Columbus) and Sumter County, continue to impress as both teams scored huge shutout wins this past week over Columbus-area teams. Sumter County beat Jordan 56-0, and Carver won 42-0 over Hardaway.
There are no changes to the Top 10 for the second week in a row.

The Pierce County Bears remain undefeated and are still the No. 1 team in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 2A. Pierce County defeated Brooks County last week on a 47-yard field goal from Garrett Stephenson as time expired.

Appling County suffered a stunning defeat against DeLand (Florida) last week, falling 38-7. The loss drops the Pirates five spots to No. 7 in our updated 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 2A.
Stephens County is in a bit of a rut right now, falling 35-10 to unranked Oconee County.
Cook lost to Class 3A’s Cairo and drops out of the Top 10 for the first time this year.

Ringgold remains in the Top 10 after their first loss of the season, falling to No. 10.

Three teams move up and two teams make their debuts in our updated Top 10 team rankings for Class 2A after Week 2 of the 2024 Georgia high school football season.
Head coach Ryan Herring’s Pierce County Bears got their season underway in good fashion with a 41-7 win over Coosa Christian from Gadsden, Alabama. Coosa Christian played for their state’s Class 1A state title last year.
Cook picked up a big win at home over Bainbridge 13-10.
Morgan County moves into this week’s Top 10, ranking at No. 9 following their second straight win of the season, a 42-28 victory over Putnam County.
They are joined by another new team as the Sumter County Panthers of head coach Will Rogers enter our Class 2A poll following their second straight victory to start the 2024 season. Sumter County debuts at No. 7 after defeating Griffin 31-0 last week.
Hart County and Hapeville Charter fall out of the Top 10 this week.

It was a wild season-opening week as five of our top-ranked teams across all classifications lost their first game, but don’t think this will be the only time that happens. This could be one of those seasons that sees a different No. 1 each week. Here’s a look at our updated Top 10 team rankings for Class 2A after Week 1 of the 2024 Georgia high school football season.
Cook defeated Berrien last week to stay at the No. 2 spot, and although Pierce County did not play last week, they remain atop the poll.
Callaway and Appling County suffered tough losses last week, each dropping four places.
Hapeville Charter and Hart County both debut in this week’s Top 10.

The 2024 Georgia high school football season is finally here, and you will notice that ITG Next’s weekly rankings have a new look. This year we will rank the Top 10 teams in each classification with a total of eight rankings. This includes a separate Top 10 ranking of the “private only” teams in Class 1A-DI, Class 2A, and Class 3A. Here is a look at our updated 2024 Georgia high school football preseason rankings for Class 2A in the new format.
Our Top 3 teams are from the same region, underscoring just how competitive the new-look Region 3 in Class 2A will be this season.
Head coach Ryan Herring and Pierce County are at the front as our top ranked team as they look to defend their state championship. The Bears return starting quarterback Caden McGatha this season. The senior became only the second quarterback in state history to throw and rush for over 2,000 yards in a single season.
