2024 Georgia High School Football Rankings: Class 1A-3A Private

Top 10 Georgia High School Football Teams in Classes 1A-Division I, 2A, and 3A Private

Our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 1A-3A Private remain the same as last week as we head into the final round of the GHSA state playoffs.

When Prince Avenue Christian was 2-3 at the halfway point of the season, which included a stretch of three losses in four games, thoughts of the Wolverines playing for a fifth straight state championship seemed like a long shot. But here they are playing in a fifth straight state title game. 

Hebron Christian and head coach Johnathan Gess will attempt to play the role of spoiler and win their first football state title.

Perhaps the biggest upset of the quarterfinals occurred with Savannah Christian, the former No. 1 team in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 1A-3A Private, falling to North Cobb Christian 30-27. Savannah Christian was undefeated before losing to North Cobb and were widely considered to be the team to win it all in the new Class 1A-3A Private split’s first year. 

That distinction now falls to a worthy and experienced Prince Avenue Christian squad that rolled over another Savannah private power, Calvary Day.

The Aquinas Fightin’ Irish pulled off the biggest upset through the first two rounds of the playoffs with a win over previously ranked No. 7 Athens Academy and make their way back into our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 1A-3A Private. 

Lovett lost to Hebron Christian, but clings to the Top 10.

Eight of the 10 teams in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 1A-3A Private enjoyed a bye in the opening week of the GHSA state playoffs. 

Wesleyan and Lovett were the only teams in our Top 10 that saw action last week, and each team won.

Our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings remain unchanged as the Class 1A-3A Private state playoffs begin this week, where one state champion will be crowned among the 25 eligible schools. 

Savannah Christian goes into the postseason as the favorite to take home this unique state title, which was formed in the offseason as part of the GHSA’s overall reclassification.

But don’t look past Prince Avenue Christian, who will take with them tons of experience under head coach Greg Vandagriff.

The Savannah Christian Raiders defeated the Toombs County Bulldogs 14-7 in a battle of region foes and top-ranked teams. Both the Raiders and the Bulldogs are members of Region 3 in Class 1A-Division I, but with the private and public schools ranked separately in Classes 1A, 2A, and 3A, it has created unique matchups like what we had in this game. Savannah Christian remains the No. 1 team in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 1A-3A Private.

Both Wesleyan and Lovett suffered big defeats last week. Wesleyan lost to Fellowship Christian by 25 points and falls to No. 9 in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 1A-3A Private. Lovett fell to Carver (Atlanta) 47-17 and drops to No. 10 in the poll.

Whitefield Academy makes it back into the Top 10 following an impressive 43-point win over Walker last week, leapfrogging Lovett and Wesleyan to land at No. 8.

Two teams in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 1A-3A Private lost last Friday night, with Lovett falling to Hapeville and Aquinas losing to Baldwin. Lovett remains in the Top 10 but drops a spot to No. 9, while Aquinas drops out of this week’s poll. 

Greater Atlanta Christian makes their first appearance in the rankings since preseason, entering the poll at No. 10.

Savannah Christian shows no signs of letting any other team take away their No. 1 spot, where they remain this week.

Prince Avenue Christian is starting to find their mojo after another win last week, and that should concern every other team in Class 1A-3A Private, especially with the playoffs right around the corner.

Our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 1A-3A Private are unchanged for the second week in a row.

Savannah Christian retains the top spot, followed by Prince Avenue Christian, who won over Hart County 43-21 last week. 

Darlington hung on to win their game over Pepperrell by a 21-20 final, which means they also hold on to their spot at No. 10 in the rankings.

Despite losing their games last week, Prince Avenue Christian and Hebron Christian remain locked in to their No. 2 and No. 4 spots, respectively.

Darlington makes their way into the Top 10 for the first time with a win over Whitfield Academy.

All of the teams in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 1A-3A Private won their games last week, with the exception of Prince Avenue Christian and Hebron Christian, who both had a bye week. 

Top-ranked Savannah Christian improved their record to an unbeaten 4-0 with a win over Oceanside Collegiate Academy from Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Savannah Christian senior Zo Smalls ran for 214 yards and four touchdowns to lead the top-ranked Raiders.

Prince Avenue Christian drops out of the No. 1 spot in our 2024 Georgia high school football rankings for Class 1A-3A Private for the first time this season after losing a tough game to yet another big opponent.

Prince Avenue Christian, now 1-2 on the season, fell to Class 4A’s Blessed Trinity last week, losing by 2 points with a final score of  23-21. The Wolverines previously opened the season with a win over Class 6A’s West Forsyth, followed by a loss to North Carolina powerhouse Mallard Creek.

Savannah Christian takes over at No. 1 for the first time this year.

Despite falling to North Carolina powerhouse Mallard Creek, in Week 2 of the 2024 Georgia high school football season, Prince Avenue Christian remains the No. 1 team in our updated Top 10 rankings for Classes 1A-3A Private.

Head coach Greg Vandagriff’s Wolverines have one of the toughest 2024 football schedules in the state, and they’ll be facing a season full of talented teams this year. 

Hebron Christian and head coach Jonathan Gess are our big movers this week after their 20-point win over Fellowship Christian, who remains in the Top 10, falling just one spot. 

Whitefield Academy debuts at No. 10 after a 35-14 win over previously ranked Mount Vernon.

It was a wild season-opening week as five of our top-ranked teams across all classifications lost their first game, but don’t think this will be the only time that happens. This could be one of those seasons that sees a different No. 1 each week. Here’s a look at our updated Top 10 team rankings for Classes 1A-3A Private after Week 1 of the 2024 Georgia high school football season.

Fellowship Christian converted a late, game-winning 2-point conversion to stun defending Class 1A-Division I state champion Bowdon, and now they jump two spots in our rankings. 

Top-ranked Prince Avenue Christian defeated West Forsyth to remain in the No. 1 spot. 

Savannah Christian and Calvary Day also won to maintain their No. 2 and No. 3 rankings, respectively. 

Athens Academy enters the rankings after defeating previously ranked Aquinas, and North Cobb Christian debuts at the 10th spot.

The 2024 Georgia high school football season is finally here, and you will notice that ITG Next’s weekly rankings have a new look. This year we will rank the Top 10 teams in each classification with a total of eight rankings. This includes a separate Top 10 ranking of the “private only” teams in Class 1A-DI, Class 2A, and Class 3A. Here is a look at our updated 2024 Georgia high school football preseason rankings for Class 1A-3A Private in the new format.

We have three classifications’ worth of teams to consider for 10 spots in our new Class 1A-3A Private poll. 

At the top is head coach Greg Vandagriff’s Prince Avenue Christian Wolverines, who are looking to defend their 2023 state championship and capture their fourth state title in the last five seasons. It won’t be easy. They start off by playing Class 5A’s West Forsyth in the Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic

Savannah Christian, who advanced to the Class 3A state finals last year before falling to eventual state champion Cedar Grove, is now in Class 1A-Division I and one of the favorites in their new class.
