Composite Poll: Top 25 Alabama High School Football Teams in Classes 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A

The 2024 Alabama high school football season has now officially come to a close, meaning that our Class 4A-7A Top 25 rankings sees its final update of the year. 

Each of the four state champions conclude the year ranked within the Top 10, headlined by Class 6A title winner Parker at No. 1 overall. 

The remaining 2024 Class 4A-7A state champions are Thompson (No. 2) in Class 7A, Montgomery Catholic (No. 4) in Class 5A, and  Jackson (No. 5) in Class 4A.

As we enter the final week of the 2024 Alabama high school football season, teams such as Cherokee County and Moody rise in our updated rankings due to big wins in the semifinal round.

A state champion will be crowned in Classes 4A-7A later this week, with the state title matchups in each classification as follows: No. 4 Central-Phenix City vs. No. 5 Thompson in Class 7A, No. 1 Saraland vs. No. 2 Parker in Class 6A, No. 3 Montgomery Catholic vs. No. 10 Moody in Class 5A, and No. 7 Jackson vs. No. 13 Cherokee County in Class 4A.

The latest update of our Alabama high school football Top 25 rankings for Classes 4A-7A sees the most movement of the 2024 season so far as we look ahead to the semifinal round.

In all, only one new team enters the Top 25 in the Pike Road Patriots out of Class 6A. They sit at No. 20 with a 10-3 overall record. 

One state title matchup is now set as No. 5 Central (Phenix City) will collide with No. 6 Thompson for the Class 7A crown.

Our latest rankings for Classes 4A-7A in Alabama high school football undergo their largest update of the 2024 season so far with a total of five new teams entering the Top 25 after the second round of the AHSAA playoffs. 

Those five teams are Muscle Shoals, St. Michael Catholic, Ramsay, Leeds, and Cherokee County, the highest-ranked of which is Muscle Shoals at No. 17.

The first round of the AHSAA playoffs has now officially come and gone with only a little movement taking place in the latest update of our Alabama high school football Class 4A-7A rankings because of it.

Two big upsets happened last week in Round 1 when a pair of Top 25 teams, Mary G. Montgomery and Hewitt-Trussville, both fell. 

One new team entered the Top 25 this week in the Spanish Fort Toros from Class 6A, who have a 9-2 overall record on the year.

The regular season has now officially come to a close, which means that our Alabama high school football rankings for Classes 4A-7A receives its final update prior to the start of playoffs. 

A pair of Class 7A teams enter the rankings this week in Vestavia Hills and Baker, both of which picked up significant wins this past Friday night. Vestavia Hills beat Clay-Chalkville at home by a final score of 28-14, and Baker picked up a 10-9 road win over Vigor.

The latest update of our Alabama high school football rankings for Classes 4A-7A brings out a notable amount of change, particularly through the top half of the Top 25 after teams such as Clay-Chalkville, Central (Phenix City), and Thompson all lost last Friday night.

A new team entered the Top 25 for the first time this year in the Austin Black Bears, who sit at No. 25. The Black Bears out of Class 7A are currently undefeated at 8-0 overall on the year.

This week’s update is headlined by the rise of the Opelika Bulldogs, who jump six spots to No. 16 as a result of their big 30-13 region win over the Enterprise Wildcats. As a result of the loss, the Wildcats were also the biggest faller in this week’s Alabama high school football Class 4A-7A Top 25 Rankings, dropping seven spots to No. 17. 

Two teams enter the Top 25 this week in Class 6A’s Spanish Fort and Class 4A’s Pleasant Grove, who sit at No. 23 and No. 24, respectively. Spanish Fort sits at 7-1 overall for the season, and Pleasant Grove is 6-1.

After a week loaded with upsets, the Saraland Spartans are now ranked as the No. 1 team in our Alabama high school football Classes 4A-7A rankings entering Week 8 of the 2024 season. This is because Auburn upset previously top-ranked Central-Phenix City this past Friday night, with the Tigers jumping the Red Devils in the Top 5 as a result. 

Two new teams enter the rankings in St. Paul’s Episcopal and Williamson, who sit at No. 24 and No. 25, respectively. Both the Saints and Lions are currently undefeated as we enter the week.

While some games statewide were canceled due to Hurricane Helene, a notable amount of matchups across Alabama high school football were still played this past Friday night. Let’s take a look back at some of this past week’s biggest results and update our Top 25 Rankings for Classes 4A-7A. 

Class 6A’s Clay-Chalkville picked up one of the most significant victories of the week, defeating Thompson 14-13 in a Top 5 showdown. 

One new team enters the rankings at No. 25 in Class 5A’s Moody, who sits at 3-2 overall for the season and is riding a three-game winning streak.

While no new teams enter the rankings, there is some notable movement as programs such as Parker, Enterprise, and Prattville all fall. Prattville saw the biggest drop of the group, as the Lions fell five spots to No. 17 after a loss to Hoover.

Coming off a week that pitted several ranked teams against one each other, here is the latest update of our Alabama high school football Class 4A-7A Top 25 rankings entering Week 5 of the 2024 season. 

Programs such as Enterprise and Hewitt-Trussville fall after suffering upset losses Friday night. 

Three new teams enter the Top 25 this week in Homewood, West Morgan, and Opelika, who sit at Nos. 23-25, respectively. Of those three teams, both Homewood and West Morgan are currently undefeated on the season, sitting at 4-0 overall.

Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa and Gulf Shores both drop seven spots each.

A new team, Class 5A’s Central-Clay County, enters the Top 25 at No. 25. The Volunteers are currently sitting undefeated at 3-0 on the season with victories over Handley, Benjamin Russell, and Valley.

This week’s update of the 2024 Alabama high school football Class 4A-7A Top 25 rankings sees a total of four new teams enter the mix in Opelika, Vigor, Spanish Fort, and Baker, who sit in the No. 22-25 spots, respectively. 

The highest ranked of that group is Class 7A’s Opelika at No. 22, with the Bulldogs currently sitting undefeated at 2-0. Opelika’s two victories came at Benjamin Russell and at home against Callaway (Georgia).

Week 1 of the 2024 Alabama high school football season has now officially come and gone, meaning that our Class 4A-7A Top 25 rankings receive their first update of the young campaign. 

This week’s update features the debut of two new teams in Class 7A’s Prattville at No. 19 and Class 6A’s Spain Park at No. 25. The former of those two teams picked up one of the state’s most notable results in Week 1, as Prattville knocked off previous No. 12 Pike Road on their home field 41-37.

Preseason – Updated 8/19/2024

The start of the 2024 Alabama high school football season has officially arrived, which means that we here at ITG Next now release our preseason Top 25 Class 4A-7A rankings for this year’s fall campaign. These rankings will be solely Classes 4A-7A and will be updated weekly throughout the 2024 season. 

Holding the No. 1 ranking entering the season are the Central-Phenix City Red Devils out of Class 7A, who finished last year undefeated at 13-0 overall to win the state title. The Red Devils, who are led by head coach Patrick Nix, return numerous key contributors off that same team this fall such as quarterback Andrew Alford, wide receiver Daylyn Upshaw, and offensive tackle Mal Waldrep.
