Ohio State football’s typically elite recruiting classes often include prep players from Florida, thanks to a strong talent pipeline that runs from the Sunshine State to Columbus. The Buckeyes’ success in Florida continued during the recent 2022 cycle, with names such as Kenyatta Jackson, Ryan Turner, and Kye Stokes signing with the Big Ten powerhouse. In the 2023 cycle, the Buckeyes are again sitting among the nation’s top recruiting classes, with multiple commits coming from Florida. Here we take a closer look at the 2023 Florida high school football prospects currently committed to Ohio State.
Brandon Inniss – American Heritage
In the past week, Ohio State saw three notable wide receivers commit to the program, with Inniss likely the biggest name of that group. Inniss, the highest-rated recruit in the Buckeyes’ 2023 class according to the 247Sports Composite, returns for the 2022 season to American Heritage, where the five-star prospect is the state’s No. 1 wide receiver.
Carnell Tate – IMG Academy
Another name to commit to the Buckeyes last week, Tate is currently the only other five-star prospect in Ohio State’s 2023 class. Tate also is among Florida’s top wide receivers returning for the 2022 season, as well as one of the top overall players at the position nationally.
Dijon Johnson – Wharton
At the moment, Ohio State holds three defensive back commits in its 2023 class, with Johnson the lone player at the cornerback position. A four-star prospect from Wharton, Johnson has been committed to the Buckeyes since April of 2022, and is coming off a junior season in which he picked off six passes.
Cedrick Hawkins – Cocoa
The other defensive back prospect from the state comes at the safety position with Hawkins, a four-star prospect coming off a 2021 season that included 117 total tackles. A player firmly in the conversation regarding who is the state’s top safety, Hawkins has been committed to Ohio State since January of 2022.
Mark Fletcher – American Heritage
Not only is Fletcher the lone running back commit in Ohio State’s 2023 class at the moment, he’s also the second player to commit to the Buckeyes from American Heritage. The four-star prospect made his announcement in mid-April, following a junior season in which he rushed for 779 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Bryson Rodgers – Wiregrass Ranch
The third wide receiver of the 2023 Florida high school prospects currently committed to Ohio State is Rodgers, a four-star prospect from Wiregrass Ranch. Like Fletcher, he’s been committed to the Buckeyes since mid-April, after a junior season in which he caught 42 passes for 645 yards and 14 touchdowns.
