2023 Alabama Super 7 State Championship Predictions

With the Alabama high school football season set to conclude this week, we make our predictions for the 2023 AHSAA Super 7 state championship round.

Class 7A

Central-Phenix City and Thompson will meet in the 7A title game for the fourth time since 2018, with the Warriors holding a 2-1 advantage in that span. This year’s meeting sees an undefeated Central-Phenix City (12-0), led by an offense that averages 44.6 PPG, poised to stop a potential five-peat for Thompson (11-1).

Prediction: Central-Phenix City Red Devils 33, Thompson Warriors 28

Class 6A

Another 2023 Alabama Super 7 battle of the state’s elite comes in 6A, where the defending state champion Saraland Spartans (14-0) face their toughest test yet against the Clay-Chalkville Cougars (13-0). The Spartans and Cougars represent the last two state championships in Class 6A, with Clay-Chalkville having won it all during the 2021 season.

Prediction: Saraland Spartans 35, Clay-Chalkville Cougars 30

Class 5A

5A is another classification that could see a repeat state champion, as Gulf Shores (14-0) faces off against defending champ Ramsay (12-2), which has yet to lose to a team from the classification this season.

Prediction: Gulf Shores Dolphins 27, Ramsay Rams 30

Class 4A

A new state champion will be decided this week in 4A, where Montgomery Catholic (14-0) meets Cherokee County (13-1). The latter finished the 2022 season as the 4S state runner-up.

Prediction: Montgomery Catholic Knights 30, Cherokee County Warriors 24

Class 3A

Class 3A sees a battle of unbeatens, with Mobile Christian (14-0) squaring off Madison Academy (14-0). Both the Leopards and Mustangs have impressed throughout the 2023 season, outscoring opponents 587-124 and 691-192, respectively.

Prediction: Mobile Christian Leopards 33, Madison Academy Mustangs 30

Class 2A

This Class 2A matchup has the potential to be one of the state’s closest as Reeltown (13-0) looks to cap a perfect season against the Fyffe Red Devils (13-1), the defending 2A state title holder.

Prediction: Reeltown Rebels 28, Fyffe Red Devils 27

Class 1A

Leroy (13-0) looks to go back-to-back after claiming the 2022 1A crown with a resounding 42-20 win over Pickens County. This time the Bears face off against Coosa Christian (9-5), which has played some impressive football in recent weeks.

Prediction: Leroy Bears 24, Coosa Christian Conquerors 20
