While only one new team entered the Top-25 in our 2022-23 Class 4A-7A Florida high school boys basketball rankings this week, the same cannot be said for the 1A-3A version. Four new teams entered the mix this week in Maclay, Impact Christian, Gateway Charter, and Master’s Academy. A few other teams saw notable rises, including Victory Christian, Jay, and Sagemont, which jumps three spots to No. 3.

Receiving its first update of the 2022-23 season, our Top-25 rankings for Florida high school boys basketball Classes 1A-3A largely remains the same in the top half, aside from Class 3A’s Providence rising a spot to No. 7. There were, however, a few more teams who rose in the bottom half, including Calvary Christian, St. John Paul II Academy, and St. Joseph Academy. Additionally, Class 2A’s Victory Christian (4-0) makes its Top-25 debut at No. 22.

Following up on the release of our 2022-23 Florida high school boys basketball preseason rankings for Classes 7A-4A a week ago, here is the second installment, which takes a look at Classes 1A-3A.
1 – Orlando Christian Prep (2A)
Chasing their fourth consecutive Class 2A state championship, Orlando Christian Prep holds the No. 1 spot in our 2022-23 Florida high school basketball preseason rankings for Classes 1A-3A. The Warriors, who went 26-4 a year ago, return key names such as Isaiah Brown and Ameer Ramadan, but they’ll also have to replace a few prominent players, such as AJ Brown and Jayden Hastings.
2 – Florida State (3A)
Coming in at No. 2 is defending Class 3A state champion Florida State. The Seminoles (24-7 a year ago) were led by one of the classification’s top scoring duos. They return one-half of that pair, four-star guard Anthony Robinson, as well as others such as Thaddeus Burns, TJ Baker, and Trey Card.
3 – Riviera Prep (3A)
Riviera Prep, which fell to Florida State by a point in last season’s Class 3A state championship game, begins the 2022-23 campaign ranked at No. 3. The Bulldogs are coming off a 24-8 season a year ago. Returning players include Dante Allen, Joachim Ametepe, and Elliot Weber.
4 – Westminster Academy (3A)
Coming in at No. 4 in our 2022-23 Florida high school basketball preseason Class 1A-3A rankings is Westminster Academy, a team that fell to Riviera Prep in a regional final a year ago. The Lions concluded the 2021-22 season with a 22-7 overall record, and they return a vast majority of their production from a year ago, headlined by the trio of Alex Lloyd, Jaylen Carey, and Rickie Ballard.
5 – Central Florida Christian (2A)
Rounding out the top 5 is Class 2A’s Central Florida Christian, which fell to top-ranked Orlando Christian Prep in a regional final. The Eagles finished the 2021-22 season with a 24-5 overall record. They return two key players in Ta’Veon Jones and Cameron Simpson.
6 – Sagemont (2A)
7 – Tampa Catholic (3A)
8 – Providence (3A)
9 – First Baptist Academy (2A)
10 – Bradford (1A)
Coming off a 25-7 season, 2021-22 Class 2A runner up Sagemont begins the year ranked just outside the top 5, as does 3A’s Tampa Catholic, which returns one of the state’s top forwards, five-star junior Karter Knox. Providence is also a prominent Class 3A team ranked within the Top 10 entering the year. The Stallions fell in a regional final last season to eventual state champion Florida State, capping a 25-5 campaign.
First Baptist Academy begins the year at No. 9 after going 26-3 to reach the 2A state semifinals, while Bradford is the first team from Class 1A to be ranked. The Tornadoes went 16-10 a year ago to win the Class 1A state championship.
11 – North Florida Educational (2A)
12 – Paxton (1A)
13 – Holy Trinity Episcopal (3A)
14 – Crossroad Academy (2A)
15 – Malone (1A)
Sitting just outside the Top 10 in our 2022-23 Florida high school basketball rankings for Classes 1A-3A is Class 2A’s North Florida Educational at No. 11. The Eagles are coming off a 24-8 season in which they reached the state semifinals. Class 1A runner-up Paxton (24-5 in 2021-22) also begins the season highly ranked at No. 12 overall, while Malone, which fell to the Bobcats in the state semifinals a year ago, sits at No. 15.
Holy Trinity Episcopal begins the 2022-23 season at No. 13 after reaching the Class 3A state semifinals a year ago, while 2A’s Crossroad Academy, led by returning forward Kris Parker, comes in at No. 14.
16 – Calvary Christian (3A)
17 – Berkeley Prep (3A)
18 – Cardinal Mooney (3A)
19 – Bradenton Christian (2A)
20 – Hawthorne (1A)
Coming off a regional final appearance, Berkeley Prep begins the year ranked at the No. 17 spot, while Calvary Christian, which fell in a regional semifinal, comes in at No. 16. Another Class 3A team, Cardinal Mooney, comes in at No. 18 after finishing the 2021-22 season with a 23-5 record. The Cougars fell in a regional quarterfinal.
Bradenton Christian, which begins the year at No. 19, is also coming off a regional final appearance, while Class 1A’s Hawthorne made it to the state semifinals.
21 – St. John Paul II Academy (3A)
22 – Windermere Prep (3A)
23 – St. Joseph Academy (2A)
24 – Jay (1A)
25 – Miami Christian (2A)
The final five teams in our 2022-23 Florida high school basketball rankings for Classes 1A-3A include two squads from Class 3A at Nos. 21-22: St. John Paul II Academy and Windermere Prep. Jay is the final ranked 1A team; they begin the year at No. 24. The final Class 2A teams ranked are St. Joseph Academy and Miami Christian, both of which reached a regional final last season.
