2025 Alabama High School Football Rankings: 7A teams fall after first round defeats

This past weekend, the 2025 playoffs officially began across Alabama high school football. A week in which every team in our Top 25 rankings was in action, let’s take a look who was on the move following the first round in this week’s update, as well as some of the second round matchups you should know.

This past weekend, the lone teams to lose in our Top 25 were from Class 7A in Vestavia Hills, Hewitt-Trussville, and Hoover, who all fell in high-profile first round matchups with Auburn, Opelika, and Central-Phenix City, respectively. As a result, Auburn joined the top five, while Opelika was the biggest riser of the week, jumping six spots to No. 17.

Looking ahead to this week, the AHSAA playoffs resume with a loaded second round all across the state. Some of the biggest matchups to watch this week include Muscle Shoals vs. Parker, Opelika vs. Baker, Saraland vs. Spain Park, and Thompson vs. Mary G. Montgomery, among others.
